Im a probationary firefighter and i need to give a class about the differences between a hale and darley midship pump.I have looked at both websites and Ifsta pumping but I am still having trouble.anything will help.

Why, as an experienced firefighter, give the proby a chance?
They might surprise you. Company officer should supervise and interject information when neede. I have had a Company officer delegate classes to each member in company.

To be perfectly honest- Both Hale and Darley are low-bid junk. You should instruct the Chiefs to buy Waterous next time because you are tired of mopping up after those leaking rigs. (admit it, they do leak a lot)
One difference you'll see is that Darley uses packing "pellets" while Hale uses graphite packing rope. I'm not sure if Darley is using mechanical seals or not, but Hale does as an option on some pumps, and standard on the larger pumps.
Go a little further into their sites and see if you can find some maintenance documents and such. Look at the schematics and diagrams, you'll see some differences in each of them. If I remember right, there's some small differences when it comes to the priming systems. You might also see how they are arranged. For example, the Hale pumps we've got have the discharge side of the pump built on top of the intake side. Waterous has them side-by-side. Not sure how Darley is built, we've got one at my career department but I try to stay far away from it when possible.
