Goggles would be fine in your pocket when the new NFPA comes out. Oddly enough they are changing it so they do not have to be on top of you helmet. I guess it must get hot up there or something.

I don't have it right in front of me, but the 2007 updaate of the NFPA standards no long require goggles to be mounted to the helmet, they only require them on you. But they still have to come with NFPA eye protection attached to meet the standard. This went into affect 8/16/06. If you haven't read it yet I would reccomend it looking it up, there is alot of changes coming to PPE. There was a good article in the Fire Apparatus and Equipment magazine a few months back about it.

I have used both the N6A and N5A, and I cannot tell the differance when it's on my head. But that being said the N5A had goggles/bourkes and the N6A has on bourkes

I would rather have goggles than bourkes. Bourkes do protect, but only if you put your chin into your chest to prevent stuff from flying into your eyes. Now if only the City would buy us goggles

I prefer safety glasses and bourkes

I wish they could retro fit those new 1010 defender eye protection shields into the N5A.

I like bourkes with safety glasses. Goggles are horrible. I think I might me leaning towards the 5A.

Like I said I wish I would have. If you dont have to have a NFPA helmet then I would definatly go with it. About a $100 cheaper too.

Took the foam pad out of the top and also removed the ratchet. Fits like a frigging glove. If I had to do it over again I would get the N5A so it would be lighter.
I have done the exact same thing. When I don't have a mask on the ear flaps are rolled up inside to make it snug on my head and when I have to mask up they get pulled out and it is just the right fit with my mask. Love it.

I'd rather not be blind than called 'non-traditional' :-) I removed all that junk from my n5a as soon as it came out of the box. That ratchet is good if you have one of those big Irish heads!

My problem with the ratchet was every time I tried to look up it dug into my neck.
