PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. -- Prince George's County officials have put the Landover Hills volunteer fire station on notice -- pack your bags and be out by the New Year.
Officials said that on Jan. 1, the county will be taking over the fire department's banquet hall to make way for a gym.
Firefighters said they are concerned that the county is taking away its chief source of fundraising for the station.
The station raises about $10,000 a year by holding fundraisers and renting out the hall, firefighters said. The money is used to buy equipment and other necessary items for the operation of the volunteer fire station.
Among those who use the center are two churches; Verizon, for phone book distribution; Ladies' Auxiliary; and the Boys and Girls Club.
