Damn shame to hear about the LONDON fireboats..seems once again the politicians screw up needed assets...(define needed assets something you don't have when you desperatly need it.) Wonder what they will do when you get a big call out on the river and there are no boats with the pumping capacity to respond effectively

    Nice video

Really like the video Fred. The Firefighter is a very nice ship and I hope to visit it someday.

The young lady who rechristened the fireboat, Jessica Culhane is from Hudson, Massachusetts. Hudson is on our north border.

A member from M9 went on a cruise with us a couple years ago...(I think he's in the last few seconds of that movie when it docks)...the Fire Fighter and it's little junior boat came out for us as we passed by.

The best of both worlds ....

That was a great video, I liked the way things were explained in such a simplified manner so that anyone not familiar with firefighting, ships or technical stuff could understand what they meant.

A fascinating glimpse inside the world of FDNY fireboats, rather than the impressive but less informative videos you usually see of fireboat demonstrations.

    Thanks, Fred! Nice find.

    Fred,
Thanks for sharing that Mate. Growing up near the River Thames in London I've always had a love of our river and a fondness for our Fireboats (although I never served on one). I was lucky enought to spend some time with the Brothers on the John D McKean in 2003 and had a great day around the harbour.

Sadly, in London, most of the shipping in the Eastern part of the River has gone so all the large Fire Tugs went and the riverside warehouses further upstream that survived Hitler and the 60-80's era of spectacular Fires in London have bnow been converted into Multi million loft apartments mean that our new Fireboats are now more Rescue craft than proper 'Fireboats'. They still have a pumping capacity, but more like a regular Pumper than the capacitiews of the old boats.

London's two Fireboats at the HQ River Station.
