  • Firestation broken into, items stolen

I just recieved this email from my chief and thought I'd repost part of it on here.

In Chittenden County, Vermont, Colchester Center Fire Department had their Champlain station broken into last week. These items were listed as missing:

Cairns Viper Thermal Camera, charger, 2 batteries
    Hydra Ram ser# 33985I
    2 halligan bars
    2 flat head axes
    1 sawzall Milwaukee model 6521-21
    2 UHF portables HT750
    1 VHF portable HT1250
1 UHF mobile radio and power supply
    1 12" halligan bar
1 red medical bag with O2
    Folding tool kit
    Bolt cutters

If anyone in the nearby VT/NY/Canada/NH area notices items matching these for sale please contact your PD (or email me and I'll pass the information along to our guys up here).

Please be on the lookout for these things, especially that TIC. I figure it's the most readily recognizable thing of the lot.

Needle, I have a potential lead already. There's a assh0le down here that goes around impersonating a firefighter, running red lights, etc. He's stolen from FDs before.

I'll get his name and contact Colchester's chief. Thanks for the heads up...

Oh, also for those of you who are big into Ebay, if you see anything similar let me or someone from this area know. I forgot about them trying to sell them on there.

I took a quick look on Ebay

For the most recognizable items, which I figure are the TIC, the radios, and the sawzall.

Nothing on a Cairns Viper TIC

Lots of both type of radios. The nearest to VT are in Wallingford CT, from a seller who looks legit and sells exclusively radio stuff.

Two of that model Sawzall, one in Arizona and one in Colorado.

Thanks guys. I'm hoping something will come up and we'll find who ever did this. It wasn't even my department but it still strikes a nerve.

BTW, randsc how long are they gonna keep you as a guest? This is starting to get rediculous.

                Please don't.

There are some problems with the registration process, the WT is trying to get them resolved.

                  Man that's a bummer.

They must have taken all that stuff from the Stuphen they just relocated up there from Station 1. The truck that we had stationed up there had a minimum of equipment.

We've have always had security issues up there as it's in a tucked away spot on a very quiet road, but I guess times they are a changin'.

I hope Mike (the Chief) and the Colchester PD is able to solve this crime.

Thats shocking. I don't know how anyone could steal equipment from a life saving organization!

There was a department just over the border from us in TX that had a tanker and brush truck taken from a station. They recovered the shell of the brush truck in a salvage yard and I never heard if they recovered the tanker.

Thieves will take whatever they perceive as available. I was on the Center before moving to Louisiana, and we had a few issues several years ago, but the items were recovered. The community is generally quiet but the character of the region has been changing, so this, unfortunatly, does not surprise me. The police department in Colchester is topnotch, and there is generally good cooperation between PDs in the area, so I expect this to be solved, and hopefully the items will be recovered.

The despicable depths that someone will stoop to turn a buck in this country turns my stomach.
I hope that they catch these mutts and send them away for a very long time.
