Watch Out Face Shields

Did you see the new add for the Defender Visor from Cairns? Dosen't look too bad and could give all other forms of eye protection a run.....

Looks interesting. Impossible to wear with an SCBA mask which my department requires... not sure why... does anyone else require visor down even with mask on?

Looks like they don't make them for real helmets, so I guess we'll be sticking with Bourkes. I'm sure the first time something knocks your helmet forward and they smash down on the bridge of your nose, you'll be cursing them.

It would be nice but my department still would make me wear goggles. Our safety commitee said that shields were not allowed, just goggles now. So, I have to take a darn shield off my helmet and put on goggles... even though my shield is NFPA approved. I wonder if they would allow this thing though

I wonder how well they would fit your mug and schnoz ? I do like them better than the goggles for asthetics............HMMMMMMMMMM have watch'em.

If your dept makes you wear the shield down when you have your SCBA on, then they may not know that this hampers your vision and according to the NFPA gods (or demons) is not necessary. The Lens in your face mask counts as proper eye protection.

I agree with whoever made the comment on not working for real helmets. I wear a leather myself.
I do see this as a great alternative to the POS 4" Faceshield. It looks like it has some type of nose piece. I can't remember ever having my old 1010 tip forward on me(at least when the chin strap was on and the ratchet tightened down.
To me it looks like someone took the closeness to the eyes of the bourkes and combined that with the wrap around protection of the faceshield.....
this is a Try before you buy product for sure.
