Hey guys I'm 20 years old and I'm stuck between wanting to do police and fire. I think both are great and would love to do both, however, I really can't without killing my social life. I was wanting to know ALL of the pros and cons of the job as a fire fighter/emt. My aim is momasboy529 if anyone is willing to talk more specifically with me.
    Appreciate what you guys do
    Thanks for your time,
    Tim

What do cops and fireman have in common? They both wanted to be Firemen when they grown up.

What did the Fireman in the truck say to the Cop in the car? A few more points on the civil service test and you would be sitting here instead of there.

Seriously- Ride along with both services. Ask questions about what they offer, services, hours, retirement, etc.

Out here in Californa, everyone wants to be a Firefighter and few want to enter law enforcement. There are LOTS of police openings vs. fire.

Lastly, most fire jobs in the west are for FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC. (FF/PM)

    Good luck!

Im coming here to get some information! I do plan on doing ride alongs and what not. I figured this would be the best place since I don't really know of any ff's where I live.
Anyways thanks for the reply, all responses are appreciated.
      Thanks,
      Tim

On a side note... I've been on officer.com and lots of policemen there have recommended fire over police, but dont necesarilly going into details about why.
I guess what you said is true huh. lol

Try them both, thats what I did.

Honestly they both have there goods and bads. It just depends on what you want to do. Carry a gun or a hose, fight fire or thugs ? I do both I am a LEO by employment and a Volly FF also. I have been a paid FF prior in SC but moved back North for the money.

Yea, I'm currently in the testing process with 2 different pd's where I live. I was hoping to get on full time police to make money (getting married in Dec) and then volly on the side. However, I can't see myself doing both and making the woman happy, lol. I'll probably end up having to experience both first hand before I can make a real decision. I just want what's going to be best for the long haul.
              Thanks for the response,
              Tim

Not to be a ***** or anything, but both careers have a high divorce rate. Why not consider getting estabished in your career first, then get married down the line? Since youre both in love, she is not going anywhere so whats the rush?

As for me, I am not big on marriage. I love being single and being free. But thats another story for another thread.

Lol this thread keeps going further and further from the original topic.. I figure get married now.. since she's staying in dorms and I'm in my own place now. That way this spring semester we don't have to keep paying for two different places to live. We're bound to get married eventualy so I figured might as well do it now. She's fully aware of me wanting to do either career and the risks/stats of both... soo.. Hopefully well be all good, being christian is also a plus.
                    Thanks,
                    Tim

Actually Bou I think you had a mix up. Firemen had a choice when we were little. You could grow up or be a fireman. It is impossible for us to do both.

Here is my take. Watch a crowd of people sometime when either a cop drives by or a fire appartus drives by. See who they wave to with all their fingers instead of just one.

Most cops that I know wish they had become firefighters. I have seen many cops switch from police to fire and not the other way around.
