Ever drop your lid with the 4" facesheld?
I have... and 99.9% of the time, the face shield breaks.
"Chief, my faceshield is broken.. can I have another one?"
"Again?"
I have the ESS goggles on my N5A, I also have a pair of bourkes that I took off the lid, because goggles and bourkes together are geeky looking.
I agree with boxalarm, bourkes are cool, not really functional, but cool nonetheless. 4" faceshields suck, as crap can still get into your eyes even if they are down. 4" shields also tends to discolor very quickly, and they melt and become loverly blobs of plastic hanging from the lid.Last edited by DeputyChiefGonzo; 09-22-2006, 07:49 PM."The education of a firefighter and the continued education of a firefighter is what makes "real" firefighters. Continuous skill development is the core of progressive firefighting. We learn by doing and doing it again and again, both on the training ground and the fireground."

Round 2
Thanks for all the input. I'm trying to convince our adminstration to switch (or allow) us to wear bourke's insteat of the 4" faceshields. Do you guys have any ideas or suggestions on this matter. Any and all is appreciated. Feel free to email me. Thanks in advance.

tell your admin to issue all members safety glasses that meet NFPA standards. then you can put whatever other secondary protection you want (bourkes, faceshield, saran wrap, etc) ,and still be in full complience on safety. If my basic HazMat training has taught me nothing else, it's that if you see a glowing green monkey running away from something, follow that monkey!
