I may be wrong, but maybe they are talking throwaway alkalines. I bought a Big Ed 4C version because my dept supplies flashlight batteries, and the light was 50% the initial cost of a rechargeable.

    Flashlight battery question.......

I've noticed some on this forum ask about alkaline verion of rechargable lights.

Why alkalines over other battery types/chemistries?

I'm somewhat into flashlights and I have always prefered lithiums for nonrechargable use, and lithium-ions for rechargable usage. I have one light that uses Nickle Metal Hydride batteries but its a special customized maglite 3D cell that uses 9 AA recharbles and welch allyn 1185 bulb. I don't generally use alkalines though.
