Actually, in your RIG (RIT, FAST) bags. What equipment/tools do you carry? Weve done the RIG thing for years but only now purchased an "official" bag for it. What we have in the new bags now is the SCBA (of course), mask, hi-pressure & low pressure lines, rope, side cutters, bolt cutters, a Sav-A-Jake and a strobe light.

Any other suggestions???

Rit bag

Nothing too much in the Air Supplyu bag for RIT. Our Dept has the philosophy of using it only as a Air Supply bag alone so not to incumber the operation of supply the brother with a much needed breath. All other tools must be assembeled on scene in staging. We also have a search rope bag to guide other groups to the victim.

Our initial op is not to deploy the air supply bag initially. First, you must locate and assess the brother in need. Usally, i'd take a hook, irons, TIC and rope bag.

Goals for Rit ops
1.)Find victim and assess (relay via radio)
2.)mark location (lights, ropes to door, and radio location)
3.)assess breathing
4.)Assess entrapment
5.)remove or replentish air

This is just my basics and hoped it helped

Also, do you have 2, 3, or 4 for RIT? That may help the discussion

We've had some outstanding RIT and Mayday courses in the past 12 months in which we have stressed effective RIT goals and tactics. Structure softening have been the most recent focus. Getting the mentality of "damn, RIT..I knew we shoulda been 2nd in" and not being afraid of preparing your structure for emergency entry and egress should the need arise has been a challenge, but it seems to be working. Why...........

We just carry a small rope, Scott SCBA bottle, an axe and a light. Also, we have an imager designated for that bag only.

I believe we view it as if were gonna take the Rit Bag in, we gonna carry some other tools with us, depending on the situation, so we dont have them in the bag itself

Thanks for all the input. Sounds like we have it pretty much covered.

A couple things...Someone asked "how many in our RIG"? At least 3, 4 if we have a full engine crew. Alot of time we will also pair up a rescue (medic unit, 2 FFs) or a squad crew (at least 2FFs) with the engine/truck crew that is RIG. That gives us 5-7 FFs.

Our RIG is just that, RAPID, so we dont carry alot of equipment. Get in quick, check the situation, secure air supply for the downed FF. If we can extricate and remove with what we have, we do so. If not, extra teams are sent in with whats needed. So things like saws and stokes would be brought by the 2nd & 3rd teams.

In addition to the above mentioned bag, we bring handlights, irons and TIC. If we have the extra manpower, a can, sledge and hook as well.

Bag, we don't use no stinkin bag.

Our FAST/RIT is minimum 8 guys. 4 man search team, 4+ man rescue team. We have, at times, been able to have 2 8man teams assembled at some large scenes.

Search team takes 1 TIC, Irons, Rope, and spare SCBA(Rit Pak II). They locate, supply air as needed, and begin removal. If need more equipment and/or manpower, rescue team goes in.

Probably,if they didn't have it,they'd find that out at a time when they needed it right friggin'NOW!,doncha think?
No matter how much you think of to put in a bag,there'll be an operation where you figure it could have gone easier and/or faster with just one more item.That's why when I worked in the river,I kept getting bigger and bigger tote bags to carry wrenches,first aid kit,extra clothes,hand warmers,flashlights and batteries,etc when most guys just showed up and used whatever tools they could find on the boat in the morning.
