    FAST is usually another version of RIT..............there are 7 (I think) Volly companies left in NYC. How do they work ............as far as I know they work like we all do. If you are asking about how they interact with the FDNY.............not to sure. Let me see what I can dredge up.

    thanks werju1, i got left with some questions. whats a FAST team and what do they do? And how do the NY vollies work? Ive seen some with new trucks, and some with 60s macks. thanks.

    Even knowing that ESU does extrications, it's still weird seeing it for the 1st time...

    It is really wierd the first time you see a police truck pull up to an MVA and a bunch of cops jump out with hurst tools. It really leaves you scratching your head if you aren't aware of the way NYC does things.

    In the FDNY, ladder companies, squad companies, and rescue companies perform extrications. Ladder companies are the initial first due units, with a rescue company assigned to all serious mva's. Squads perform extrication as the acting ladder company in their coverage area.

    NYPD Emergency Service Units (ESU) also respond to rescue extrication calls, so many extrications are a combined FDNY/NYPD effort

    In NYC, whoperforms extrication. I know in boston the ladders and 2 rescues do, but in new york they have squads too. And the NYPD has those REP deals and big heavy rescues. Who's in charge?
