RICHMOND, Va. -- As hurricane season heats up, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has started sending trailers loaded with emergency relief supplies in the Richmond, Va., area to be used if a natural disaster strikes.
To prepare in advance for emergencies such as hurricanes or floods, FEMA started sending trailers more than a week ago to an undisclosed location in the Richmond area, officials said.
The trailers are loaded with water, cots, blankets, tarps and other emergency-relief supplies and will be stored until needed.
FEMA plans to store 30 such trailers in the city, but the supplies could be used in the surrounding areas too. The move would help speed up deliveries of supplies to disaster-stricken areas.
