  • Lights and Siren

I'm new to the site, not to sure where to post this question.

Just curious if anyone knew if there were any websites or other places to pick up some USED lights and sirens for my POV.

    Any help is much appreciated!

If it has to do with lights and sirens, it's at www.elightbars.org.

EBAY is the way to do it. Also, you can find them fairly cheap at galls.com or firestore.com

I never thought I would see the words "galls" and "fairly cheap" in the same sentence.

                !!!!!!!

Well, you didn't say where you lived.

It would depend in what state you lived as it they ALLOW such items in a POV!!

Besides, not trying to burst your bubble and wanting to "belong", why would you want to put that on you own vehicle? Folks do not pay too much attention to the real fire apparatus and medic units that are marked and run top quality lights and siren to get through the traffic. What makes you think that putting this on your POV will make the same folks get out of your way?

By the way, I have all that stuff on the department issued vehicle and rarely used them as I have stated. I just go with the flow of the traffic and well, I get there maybe 5 minutes later than I would have with sirens and lights blasting and taking a chance of being in an accident! Food for thought!

boy isnt that the sad truth .
heres a little variation to what jeff foxworthy once said:
"I believe....that if your in traffic, and someone doesnt pull over to an emergency vehicle, that it should be perfectly legal to get up under them, get em loose, and put them into the wall!"

ok to answer the topic question, is it even legal to run lights in your state? even if it is, i feel that only the top 3 raking officers in the department should have lights. and thats pushing it right there .

It all depends on his circumstances

He should check with his Chief about that. Some states allow it, some require inspections, some require passing a course.

It's true that some people won't get out of the way, but around here (at least) the majority do. That can make a significant difference when responding on a hilly road with curves.

Some of the departments around here may have no more than 2 to 4 men able to respond during the day. In that case, 5 minutes could make a signficant difference. There have been times when I have been standing at a developing scene waiting for the second guy to show up so that I can follow the two-man safety SOGs.

Other departments around here have 15 to 20 guys ready to respond in the middle of the day. In that case, any one guy showing up a few minutes sooner or later wouldn't make any difference.

In all cases, I'd say he should check with his Chief about the use of lights and siren. His department should have SOGs.
