  • Color Scheme for Helmet Fronts

We are in the process of changing to "traditional" style helmets with leather fronts. We are planning on having black helmets. Could I get some color schemes for the fronts for the following ranks? FF, Lt, Capt., Bat. Chief.
    Thanks!

Firefighters: Black helmet, Black front piece
Captains and Lieutenants: Black helmet, white front piece
Chiefs: White Helmet, white front piece
I can't believe they actually pay me to do this!!!

One friend noted yesterday that a fire officer only carries a flashlight, sometimes prompting grumbling from firefighters who have to lug tools and hoses.
"The old saying is you never know how heavy that flashlight can become," the friend said.

All of our fronts are black among line personnel. Firefighters and engineer has black fronts on black lids. Captains have black fronts on a red helmet. Chiefs have white on white.

One very common scheme I've seen is black helmets with black fronts for engine guys, black helmets with red fronts for truckies, black helmets with white fronts for company officers and white all over for chiefs and other bosses. That's the scheme I would have liked to have used here, but folks liked the idea of the captain having a red lid instead.

Just about everyone here has a white shield. There are three exceptions. Orange for Canditate, Yellow for Probie, Gold leaf for Chief.

The main difference is the helmet color.

              Yellow for firefighter
Yellow with red tets for engineer
              Black for Lt.
              Red for Capt.
White for the Chief's (2 asst. and 1 station, the station Chief gets the gold Shield)

The major model Some places follow (FDNY Scheme) is...

Black shield with the following insert colors:

Black with white numbers is Engine
Red with white numbers is truck
Blue with white numbers is Rescue
Yellow with white numbers is squad company

If you're an officer of one of the above companies, swap the lettering and insert colors.

Other large cities follow a similar pattern.

Alot of places just use black fronts with red panels and white lettering. You'll get a hundred answers.

Probies and juniors are either yellow or orange depending what you like better.
