Turnouts Extractor Help

We are building a new building and need to place an extractor machine in it so I was hoping there were a few people on here who had done the research before.

We are a small combination department with a daily paid staff of 4 to 6 people plus officer and some volunteers. So I hope that there is some way to figure what type and size of machine that would need. I guess I will need the machine or at least a template before the slab gets poured so the concrete guys can set the anchors.

Any other information that anyone may have about buying and installing these machines, pitfalls, nice features, etc would be very helpful. I know next to nothing about them.

We are a similar sized department as you described yourself as. I spent considerable time researching the brands and such. We went with the Milnor gear guardian with a capacity of 55 - 60 lbs Info on unit we purchased

It was the most band for the buck. The factory sent a crew out to actually install the unit. They placed the anchors and completed the install. We only had to provide the power and plumbing rough in for it.

So far we are very pleased with the unit. It has all kinds of settings on it for outer shells, mosture barriers, bedding and truck towels. We have been able to wash like 3 complete sets of gear at one time.

It was our choice and so far we are pleased with it.

The anchor bolts are not a big issue, but the thickness of the concrete, the power source, water source and drain are something that must be established in the building process. The machine can be anchored with drop in anchors. You will need to know the specs of the machine for all the rest of the Items I mentioned. This is very important!

Birken,We have a Unimac 35 and are very pleased with it.The others mentioned are nice machines too.Who will take care of you after the sale would be one of my major considerations.All the machines I've seen seem to do a good job. T.C.

Ours was retrofitted in our existing station. We ran a rather large electrical service to the site, and the contractor drilled the floor for the concrete anchors. If I had it to do new in a new site, I would look to raise it up a bit. Ours is a front load, it would be more convienant if it were on more of a pedestal.

I forgot to ask, how much did these cost. Machine only. I do the plumbing, electrical, and concrete.

How long before you complete your station? If it is going to take a little bit of time, try applying for a grant to cover the cost either local or federal.

A company near me actually received a FEMA grant for theirs.

I will be at my station this weekend and I will find out who manufactured ours.

Also, there are several threads in this forum regarding different cleaners to use or contact any company that cleans gear.

I know I'm dragging up an old one, but in my efforts to play dumb for a minute I need a debate solved....

Does this Milnor unit do wash and 'dry' or wash only and we need a separate drying unit? My committee has differing opinions and I need confirmation from someone who has one.
