  • Ideas for identifying the wings in a building

Our local school wants to re-number the rooms/wings of the building for easier identification of areas in case of an emergency. It's pretty much a mish-mash of rooms and numbers right now.I have some ideas but was wondering if there is some system that anyone out there has used with particular success.

The school is one story---roughly rectangular----4 wings runing north/south----two long wings running east/west that connect all the N/S wings. An auditorium and 3 gyms are at either end of the complex, but ID'ing those should be a no brainer.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Kiwi has the right idea, but what does your department use for 'the address side'? Is it Side A or Side 1?

I may be making this harder than it is, but if you are asking firefighters how to integrate a numbering system in case of emergency, I think this bares some thought. If the school letters or numbers the sides in a way that the fire department understands, even mutual aid companies will know where rooms are. Also when someone from the school screams that the fire is in a room on Side C, everyone knows that is the side opposite the address.

Food for thought... hey, I'm hungry!
