How many here have seen increased action by their locals on this?

(I know the question is vague. If we keep the answers vague we may have a few informative posts before the war begins)

Pardon My ignorance, but what is a Article XV???

Seriously, I dont know what that is.
-Brotherhood: I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
-Mistakes: It could be that the purpose of you life is to serve as a warning to others.

-Adversity: That which does not kill me postpones the inevitable.

-Despair: Its always darkest before it goes Pitch Black.

Artie, I wished you'd stuck around last night. I really wanted to talk to you about this.

I think the authors of Article XV are missing the boat, primarily because they aren't seeing the big pciture. I think that some great things could happen if a different approach were tried....

To keep it "obvious," it is the whole Resolution 43 thing. You know, where the IAFF tries to pull it's political puppet strings on all it's members who Volunteer as Firefighters in their TIME OFF( PERSONAL TIME, TIME AWAY FROM WORK, TIME THEY AREN'T BEING PAID FOR)by telling them they must either stop Volunteering or face expulsion from the Local.

And to answer the question, I don't think the Locals in this area have too much clout, because I haven't seen anyone stop Volunteering because of it. So whatever....seems to me it has failed up to this point. And hopefully it will fail altogether.

              Toodles.....

Geez, Tiller, who ****ed in your corn flakes this morning?

I think the guys who want to volunteer should have the right to do that. However, I think the IAFF has a legitimate issue. I may not agree with it, but I understand their point of view. I know of several departments whose communites refuse, or whose leadership is too chicken, to ask for, no DEMAND, proper staffing. So they make it up with volunteers or POCs.

I think E229's idea here was to get feedback from some of his union brothers on what is happening in their areas, and to do it without starting a firestorm of paid vs. volly bickering. And I respect that.

We have several of or union guys who volunteer at departments near their home. I see both sides of the coin. I am going to stay neutral on this one. And none of the career depts have made any issues or gestures towards that thinking. We even have a few depts that encourage it due to smaller depts get grants for training, and they can get free training that their career dept can benefit from.

There isn't much done about it around here (chicago area) either. As long as the locals involved don't make issue with it, the state organization is staying hands off for now.

I personally disagree with what these people are doing, but I am not in a position to do anything about it.

No, no one ****ed in my cornflakes or anything of the sort.

Some of you guys might be newer to these forums and were not around when this subject was a hot topic. I am an Adamant Opponent to this action by the IAFF because it still affects the Jurisdiction I Volunteer in every day. It affects all of us, even the ones like myself who are not Two-Hatters. When you screw with one of us, you screw with all of us.

And my mood is not personal towards any of the career firefighters on here who support this issue. It is strictly a professional agenda. Because outside of the firehouse, we are all still human and I would probably get along with 90% of these guys in the "world." Because no matter the Compensation, firefighters pretty much share the same personalities.

It is kind of hard to judge emotion over these forums...but I wasn't in a bad mood when I posted.

I have asked this question multiple times, and still have not received an answer. If it is top secret, that's fine, just say that ...

Do the IAFF By-Laws "FORBID" volunteering (volunteering, period, or in a jurisdiction that has a Local), or do they simply "DISCOURAGE" it?
