Transfer

I was recently hired by a fire dept. that is very far from where I grew up. I love the job and feel very fortunate to have one but i hate it when i am not at work because I just don't like the area or surrondering area. I have been thinking about transfering to a dept. that is closer to home and I was wondering what is the options are of others on the issue of transfering... any option would be much appreciated.

I have a question ....... do you not like it because it is unfamiliar and you don't know people there the way you did back home? If that's the case perhaps joining something outside the FD would help you settle in, a lot of places have "Welcome Wagons" for new residents, have a BBQ for your shift crew, etc. Moving to a new place is never easy, but I've learned that if you wait for people to come to you it's never going to happen, if you wait for someone/something to make something better, it's never going to happen; YOU have to take charge and make things work. ONLY you have the power to make yourself happy. Good luck.
