POST....A firetruck and a police Emergency Service Unit vehicle collided in Queens yesterday, injuring seven, authorities said.
The accident occurred at the corner of 111th Avenue and Merrick Boulevard in South Jamaica shortly after 6 p.m.
Five firefighters from Ladder Co. 133 and two cops from ESU Truck 9 were taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital with minor injuries.
The trucks were responding to separate calls and both had lights and sirens on, authorities said.
DAILY NEWS.....A fire engine and a police truck rushing to separate emergencies collided in Queens yesterday, injuring five firefighters and two cops, police and fire officials said.
The two large trucks, both with lights flashing and sirens wailing, crashed into each other at the intersection of Merrick Blvd. and 111th Ave. in Jamaica at 6:05 p.m., police said.
The police Emergency Service Unit truck was racing to a suicidal person threatening to jump when it turned onto 111th St. and hit the fire truck, which was speeding the other way to an alarm, officials said.
The injured were taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital with neck and back injuries.

On a serious note, our best wishes for a speedy recovery to all involved in this incident. This is one of those examples of what can go wrong despite all the safety training that we get. When organizations who use lights and sirens to go places do so on different radio channels, then there is always the chance of something like this happening. We got a call for an auto accident a while back, and as we responded to the location given, we encountered a high speed police chase COMING AT US HEADON. The Ambulance was leading, and the crew recognized what was happening and notified the rest of us to get off the road, which prevented an accident, as I see it. DooDoo happens, as the saying goes, and we need to be alert at all times. For anyone who's waiting for a Anti-ESU thread, this ain't it. Stay Safe....
