  • Searching for a Searchlight

    Hey everybody,

I'm have been looking for a searchlight to replace our old failing units but have had little luck finding what I need. I would like to know if any one has found or seen a 1 million+ candlepower cordless/rechargeable floodlight that has interchangeable batteries (like a 24V power tool battery or the even slimline batteries found in structural searchlights).

The 1 million+ candlepower is very important since we use them to search the ravines and mountains around our resort. I have found plenty of good units that don't have interchangeable batteries, but since they provide only 20-30 minutes of good light, they don't quite cut it.

The best item i've found so far is a 1.5 million candlepower unit called a goliath that quick charges in two hours, but still only burns for 45 minutes.

    Any other ideas??

    Here you go...

Not a bad price either, not sure how long it'll last though, I'd buy lots of spare batteries.

If you are really serious, I've seen this puppy in operation, it'll light up a spot several miles away. I'm sure its not cheap, but it last for hours with one battery pack, and can be used from a vehicle for initial search. If you've ever read Tom Clancy's Debt of Honor, this is the light Clark used to crash jet transports from his hotel room.

        Thanks,

That first one is pretty much what i'm looking for. The last one is nice, but 3 GRAND!!! I don't need six million candlepower that bad.

I saw the 6 mil in use by a game warden in the Cayman Islands. He used the IR filter and some night vision goggles to sneak up on poachers. Once up to about 400 yards away he'd shout "Hey" and flip off the IR filter. Of course the poachers would look towards where the shout came from and they'd loose their night vision for the next two weeks. "Put the fear of God into them it does" he told me. Hehehe. Needless to say, they go from being poachers to needing to be rescued since they can't see anything. US Navy uses these lights to the same effect, non lethal weapons to get people away from the ships at night. You could probably spot a reflective patch miles away with that thing. You know, its still cheaper than a TIC! Maybe you can get a grant or a donation? Good luck!

Wow 229, what a rig. Did it have a seperate generator for the lights or run off the truck's engine?
