YUP!!
Tools in the tool box. An apt description. We have a variety of nozzles and use them as we see fit, depending on the situation. There are people out there (some at my house) who carry a 1" straight tip in their coat pocket, so that if the combo tip ain't doin' it, they have another option. Works for me. So far, so good....I'm holding my breath. I know the flaming is just around the corner.
Really though, I think most companies these days use both types depending on the requirements. I would not have an engine that was equipped with only one type of nozzle, either smooth bore or combination.

What?
Is this really happening again?
Dude, forum search. Research, archive, microfiche... it's all there in your student handout. Check the syllabus...
It's like dating. Screw a bunch of women, see which ones you like and could actually stand to put up with their **** in the morning, marry that one. Try out some nozzles, if you like one, get it. Don't get because so and so from FDNY says you should. Get it because it is right for you and YOUR department. You wouldn't marry someone based on secondhand info would ya?
Now on to important **** like who is better: career guys or vollies......if you put the handline in the right spot, you won't have to jump out the window...
