(Stevensville-AP) -- A firefighter from Chester has been buried
    with full departmental honors.
Forty-one-year-old Doug Thomas was buried yesterday at
    Stevensville Cemetery.
He was the Second Assistant Chief with the Kent Island Volunteer
fire company, and never fully recovered from injuries he received
on duty nearly two years ago.
Thomas was answering an alarm in September 2001 when his
    firetruck crashed, leaving him paralyzed.
About 350 people -- including firefighters from across the state
-- attended his funeral yesterday at the Kent Island United
    Methodist Church.

Queen Anne's firefighter dies; hurt two years ago answering alarm

    (Baltimore-AP) -- A Queen Anne's County firefighter injured in
an accident nearly two years ago has died.
Forty-one-year-old Doug Thomas of Chester was the Second
Assistant Chief with the Kent Island volunteer fire company. He
died yesterday at Baltimore's Shock Trauma Center.
Thomas was riding a firetruck that crashed and overturned while
en route to a reported boat fire in September 2001. He was
paralyzed from the waist down and had been in-and-out of the
hospital for major surgeries since the accident.
He was a member of the fire company for 25 years and will be
    buried with full honors.
Funeral arrangements are still being finalized.
