what is the differance between the Bourke eyeshield standard configuration and the Bourke eyeshield deluxe configuration??

Where did you see this? Sounds like some kind of extra item you get when you buy it, such as a goggle combo?

the deluxe vs. standard configuration refers to what you get with the New Yorker helmet, not "something extra" with the bourkes. For example, usually pbi ear protectors, the carved eagle, etc. come with the deluxe new yorker, hence the higher price

Like I said, there is nothing extra in terms of the bourkes eye shields. The configurations the retailer refers to are what comes on the helmet, not the bourkes. Again, the difference in the standard and the deluxe are what I alluded to: the standard comes with a screen-printed eagle and nomex ear flaps, the deluxe configuaration comes with the carved eagle and the pbi hood and costs more.

                the home page of MSA/Cairns
                http://www.msafire.com/portal_index.html

the order from for all Cairns helmets
                http://media.msanet.com/NA/USA/FireH...ets2002ATO.pdf

using that order form, you can pick and chose which options you want on your helmet

Eone, i have a question for you:
Us jr's are planning on buying leather new yorkers
why are you guys planning on doing this? it's a $450 investment (at least), and you guys are still juniors. are your dept issued helmets not good enough for what you do? don't get me wrong, I'm getting a new yorker within the week, and like the leather helmets. but why not wait until after you finish high school, after your life stablizes (ie, you get a full time career set up), and after you've been a certified firefighter for a couple years?

personally, i like the bourkes, but i think i'm going to be getting the ESS goggles too.

best of luck with whatever you do.
If my basic HazMat training has taught me nothing else, it's that if you see a glowing green monkey running away from something, follow that monkey!

We are getting them because we dont like our old helmets we think its time for new ones.its not that they arent good enough its just that we want new ones and differant ones.we are doing things to raise money for our helmets.and when we are 18 its not like we are gonna take these with us.

                    Check your Dept. Regs.

Tiller, before you drop all that loot better check to see if a OHSA only compliant helmet meets your Dept. Specs. Many Depts. and training agencies are beginning to require NFPA compliant equipment which the N5 New Yorker DOES NOT meet. The N6 Houston is NFPA compliant, difference in cost;$25-100 depending on supplier.Again, as you've been told, different "packages"will vary the price somewhat. Also better toughen up your neck, neither helmet is light, the cow didn't give up it's backside 'fer nuthin.T.C.

sorry, e-one, i thought you meant you were paying for the helmets out of your own pocket (like some departments require FFs who want leathers to do). if you can, get the N6A. it's NFPA compliant, and can be outfitted to look like a new yorker. and it provides one additional level of protection. and yeah, wearing a leather is much different than wearing a plastic helmet.

Holy thread revival! I think the parties of this 7 year old conversation have moved on to something else to talk about.
I can't believe they actually pay me to do this!!!

One friend noted yesterday that a fire officer only carries a flashlight, sometimes prompting grumbling from firefighters who have to lug tools and hoses.
"The old saying is you never know how heavy that flashlight can become," the friend said.

Order a n6a with goggle and bourkes and take off the goggles. This way you get the NFPA compliant helmet shipped to you.

anyone on the market for a cheap pair of ess goggles?????

Hey I seen a guy wearing a leather a while back and I am pretty sure it was a 6a because of how high is sat on his head. do the n5a sit low like an 880 does or do both of them sit high like a damn ben II helmet??? None of the fire service stores around here keep leathers in stock. I'd hate to buy one at the firestore.com and have to return it.
