    Greetings! Question for ya'll
we are in the process of starting a two tag acc. system at our dept. I was just wondering if some of you could give me places that you have purchased tags, etc. We would like photo id's but normal engraved tags are good too, any info you can send our way will be appreciated. Thanks!

Most local engraving shops can help you out. Before you go sit down and figure out what you need. Photo Id is nice, but a litte expensive for accountability tags

Eagle Engraving serves the Fire Industry by providing awards and gifts for recognizing years of service, retirements, donors and volunteer efforts.

We just started using the tags that they make.

We also use the passport accountability system from Eagle Engraving. Very nice system and nice people to deal with.

the local walmart near us can make dog tags that we are thinking about going to. i got a pair of old name tags and cut the spikes and grounded them down, then drilled a hole and put a keyring through it. makes a great set of tags.

We use plain old metal tags that one of our members uses a tool and die to hammer in our names and station. Really rudimentary, really classic and more important....real cheap. His factory doesn't mind the donation of the tag, hook and time to imprint (all 1 minute). They think of it as community service.
Once again....the above views are my own and not that of my department. (And probably should not be construed as having any real meaning, whatsoever!)

We are in the process of updating our current accountability system. The new system will work as follows:

Each person gets three tags. The tag consists of a card folded in half. On the outside is a digital picture of yourself and your name. Inside is your driver's license number, emergency contact info, and any pertinent medical information. The tags are hard laminated w/ an area at the bottom to cut off should you need to gain access to the personal information inside.

The three tags are used as follows:
Two are clipped onto the outside of your turnout gear. One of these is clipped onto a ring on the piece of apparatus. Upon arriving at an incident, the officer of the rig takes this ring, and reports to manpower staging. The manpower staging officer (and/or an assistant) places all rings on the "Staging" side of an accountability board. When your company is given an assignment, the manpower staging officer transfers the ring for your company to the "Committed" side of the accountability board. The second tag is then given to the accountability officer immediately prior to entering the building. The accountability officer puts your tag on the accountability board in accordance w/ your assignment.

The final tag is kept on the inside of your coat for safe keeping.

We are printing and preparing the accountability tags ourselves, and all mutual aid companies will be on the same system.

We just scanned our dept photos into the computer and made them up on a word program. Printed them in color and laminated them. Over all Low cost and they look nice. We use a evidence can on every truck as a collection point then the OIC sorts them to their locations on the scene.

                      PA,
Who did u use for your tags, such as getting them laminated, etc. We looked at that option but All Hands fire seemed to be the cheapest, we're located in Armstrong County about 70 mile northeast of pittsburgh

We use a two-tag system with phenolic tags printed with the ff's name affixed to the underside brim of the helmet with velcro. One tag goes on the "passport" on the engine, which ends up with the IC. The other tag is used as an IDLH entry control tag.

The original tags we used were engraved. Lately we've been using a Brother P-Touch label machine. We find that the Brother labels hold up fine.

As a side note - we also use the Brother P-Touch label maker to put each ff's name on the back of his/her helmet, using the 1" high tape. Whatever material Brother uses, it holds up good even there. If you look at some of the helmets, the reflective Scothlite strips are all curled and heat-distorted, but the Brother tags look like new!

Does anyone know if the original passport accountability system videos can still be purchased?

We have used the passport system for years now and I would like to get my hands on the original training tape for my department. Ours has about had it.
