Firefighter Retires after 50+ Years.....

As of Jan. 1 2002, the Town of Somers will lose two firefighters to retirement. Those in the area of Somers will know "Bunky" who gave 51 years to the Town and Donny who gave 40+ years. Both will be greatly missed for all their knowledge,wisdom, guidance. Both have deffinitely seen the industry change and come along way. So when you are celebrating on this New Year's Eve please give a toast to two great individuals who will be missed by all the firefighters,Emt's at Somers Fire Dept.

I have 26 yrs. in, but if i knew as much as those guys have forgotten about firefighting, I would be a whole lot better. I hope yall have a great retirement party for them.

I forgot to mention that both were former chiefs, and Bunky's Father actually help start the somers fire dept. Bunky's family has 4 generartions on the dept. A party for them is already in the works.

We have 7 fulltime the rest are all volunteer. The two guys retiring are volunteer.

Congratulations just can't even begin to say enough to people who bring such careers to an end. I can only hope to complete my last 10 years and leave with 30 years of service. My Dept will lose 5 members this year, (1 has already left) that started their careers before 1963. The oldest started in 1959. This same individual has also had a/the same part time job for the last 23 years. Just think 5 members representing almost 200 years of service and experiance. Oh yes 1 is a District Chief, 2 are Lt's, and the other 2 are just plain ole dog faced hose humpers. They are all proud members of St. Petersburg Fire Rescue, located in Pinellas County (the most Densly populated in the state) in the Tampa Bay area of Sunny Florida and are all members of our union. Can you imagine the changes they have seen and the ideas that have passed their way at one time or another. How can this all be summed up by a slap on the back, a good luck hand shake and a watch? All I can say is God Bless you all and I hope that I can keep you alive in my thoughts and actions while I still carry on the Proud traditions that YOU folks have molded in your tenure.
