  • Bomb Line

Has anyone heard of a 2½" hose line referred to as a "bomb line"? I have heard of a blitz line when referring to a preconnected 2½" line. Is a bomb line the same thing?

    If not...
How is it loaded, preconnected or dead load?
Where is it loaded, crosslay, side of truck, rear?
What type nozzle is used, solid bore or fog?
How long is it, 100', 200'?
What is its' primary use and why is it preferred to other 2½" hose loads?

    Thanks

We have a 3" preconnect line 400' with a water thief at the end connected to deluge gun mounted on our rear step. We call that our bomb line. It's used for a quick large caliber stream attack at an incident. It can also be closed and 1 3/4" lines can be used from it. After the knock down.

Sure it was first refered to that in 1982 in Fire Engineering Magazine. "Blitz Lines and Bomb Lines"

        Usually seen as:

Blitz = handline nozzle at the end of a preconnected 2.5" line
Bomb = master stream at the end of a preconnected 2.5" line

Now, local usage especially hose diameter and length will vary. Many departments use 2" fine in the role of a "Blitz"; others find 3" or better 3.5" or 4" is more flexible for Bomb lines.

personally i always thought the bomb line was bigger than a 2.5 inch cause around here unless its a weenie fire(like something bigger than extishger can handle but a 2.5 would be to much) i was thinking a bomb line like 3.5 or 4 inch. Don't wanna move around much with that 4 inch.
