what is a handy-talkie?

Put your hands to you mouth and yell...really economical solution to radio communication needs...that is assuming you have hands and all...

(Although there may be other definitions, that is the lingo I have heard used...no jokes intended)

It came from Motorola, its what they call their hand helds. Look on the back of your HT 1000...

It's a hand held radio. The term is most common here in the NY/NJ area.

What is a handy-talkie? Is it the same as a walkie talkie or portable radio? Saw it in one of the articles and was wondering.
