  • Going Just a Bit Overboard in Ohio ?

Apparently an Ohio Deputy Sheriff thought it nessesary to draw his weapon on a fire captain at the scene of an m.v.a. after the two exchanged "words?" ~ From what I gather reading the article in the News Section of F.H. an altercation occured between the two over moving a piece of Fire Apparatus. ~ The article goes on to say that this particular department has had "problems" with this deputy in the past.

Make me understand why a Sheriff's Deputy would jump up onto a fire engine, draw his weapon, and scream "YOU'RE UNDER ARREST" ~ I'm not saying the Fire Captain was right for arguing with the Deputy but the drawing of the weapon is extreme. ~ Extreme enough to have the Sheriff order an investigation, place the deputy on admin. leave {Should have been fired..thats my opinion} and had the Fire Captain released. ~

Who does this deputy think he is ? So what if a Fire Captain or any Joe Blow citizen argues with him....He has no reason or right to pull his weapon and arrest somebody just because he got his feelings hurt.

Make me understand why some Law Enforcement Officers out there have the GOD Complex just because they have a Badge/Gun.

I cant help you there.I do know that both the fire chief and the sheriff have said tehy have not had problems for 20 some years. Now this.
Get rid of the guy yes but under civil service you have to do the investigation and move him to either paid or unpaid leave,or desk driver.
I have had only one problem with a Cop with God complex. He is also a fireifghter.I wont go into the story cause there is no need.He never has been in that situation but can be a pain in the arse throwin his badge around(he has two to choose )
And before any one starts. Not anti cop at all thank you.

Probably the same reasons some paramedics get the "Para-God" complex and even some firefighters get the feeling that they can walk on water. Let's face it folks, not everyone is perfect and sooner or later a bad apple slips into all professions. It sounds like this clown is being dealt with, so hopefully it will come to a speedy conclusion and we can put this one behind us.

Make me understand why some fire fighters are anti-cop.

Get off your soapbox. The deputy is unstable and belongs to be removed from the job. Even an anti-cop person like you can't say that this is typical behavior.

Just to clarify, he was not an OHIO DEPUTY SHERIFF, he was a Clark County Sheriff's Deputy, the county Dayton is in. Not every law enforcement officer in Ohio is insane; just this one. I know many Ohio State Highway Patrol officers. I simply don't want the two confused or compared. Thanks.

As long as we're clarifying, Dayton is in Montgomery County. Springfield in in Clark County.

George, who are you to judge if Mr. Dunlap is a anti-cop guy or not? I didn't see anything saying he was. He was just posing some questions. You are too quick to judge people.

Excuse me Mark, go to a thread on the Volly board called Firearms in the Firehouse and read it thoroughly and then get back to me.

                  mark440,

Thank-You I am not Anti-Cop and never did make any accusations on this or any other forum which I'm glad to see you noticed ~ Again Thank-You.

                  George,

I thought cops were trained to understand reading comprehension and understand what they read. There is no getting through you Thick Skull is there ? You're not a cop you're an idiot that judges people way too quickly with out understanding what they say. Since when do they teach "I know it all 101" in the Police Academy ?

Well actually George IS a cop for the county. He is also a firefighter. One of many in his family. An idiot? no. He is one of the most respected arson investigators in this state. He was merely defending his profession as a law inforcement officer before it was ripped apart by the actions of one man.

Grow up, this is not an "us VS them" thing it's nothing than a guy who made a terrible mistake, and who is probably a little unstable. He needs to be dealt with appropriately there's no mistaking that.
This is not directed at anyone in specific, but it's the only thing i can think to say, we are all on the same team and we ALL need to remember that.
We all know people have made some pretty terrible mistakes, and they have been forgiven.
Again I'm not attempting to dismiss deviant behavior, but we all need to take it a little easier on each other and be thankful that, although what happened was horrific, it could have ended much worse.
