I know some Depts and Cities have them...I was just curious about the difference between reserves and vollies....Do reserves get paid..How do they work as compared to vollies..and do paid Fire Depts have reserves?

I've most often seen the term used by primarily career California fire departments for their paid-on-call or volunteer members.
Reserve is just their way of referring to on-call or part-time personnel. (The term is much more heavily used in CA for part-time paid or volunteer law enforcement...1/7 of California's police officers are considered "Reserves")
I see the term very infrequently outside of Cali.

After a number of years as a vollie on an all voluteer dept, I moved away to join the Navy. I was officially made a "reserve".
The idea was I could come back when my enlistment was up and not return to "probie" status.
Alas, I was injured while in the service and can no longer do the job, but I'm still on their rolls. Now listed as "retired on disability".
FWIW.
