Hey everyone I am pretty new to this forum.....I have been a volunteer in my town for three years and have been in law enforcement for 8 years....Recently a load of suspicious fires have plagued the district I patrol at work....This lead me to being fascinated by arson investigation..I am considering doing this either part time or full time as a career change ..I am also willing to relocate anywhere......I just wanted to know if any fellow firefighters on this forum would have any suggestions for me how to get started or how to apply.....

It varies from state to state, county to county, township to township. Check out the county and state fire academy for info."When I was young, my ambition was to be one of the people who made a difference in this world. My hope is to leave the world a little better for my having been there."

State of Iowa has a program through their State Police acadamy. In Illinois some departments have their own.Look it up under Government websites that might help too.Comment

New Jersey is a vry difficult place to get into this full-time. Either you have to beling to one of the eight cities that have full-time arson units, get a job with one of the fire marshals offices which have fire investigation units, or get a job with a law enforcement agency that has a fire investigation unit like a prosecutor's office or the NJSP.
My advice to you is to join the IAAI and the NJ Chapter of the IAAI and start meeting people and attending school. Get your PD and the Prosecutor's Office to send you to the DCJ 90 hour Basic Fire INvestigation School. Then try to get into a Prosecutor's Office that has a unit.
Or, leave NJ and get a job.
