  • Heading for NY.

Hello.First of all, we were all a bit dissapointed when they announced that the memorial was postponed. There were dozens from my area that had traded shifts and so on to go.But we understand, and the guys all said that when a new date is chosen, they want to go.
4 of us are still going down to NY.to attend a memorial or two and to have a look at the devastation that took place on 9-11.
Now we will be staying in Manhattan 8th&49th.
Could someone help us out by maybe choosing a memorial we could attend either Saturday or Sunday that maybe would be in the area where we'll be staying.WE don't know NEW YORK very well and don't really know how far it is to Staten Island where the majority are being held that weekend.
PLease e-mail me at [email protected]

Is the site off limits to visiting firefighters? I got one e-mail from a NY Firefighter who said as long as you show your
FD. photo I.D. and badge that you could get closer than the average civilian.

    THanks
    Lt. Bob LeBlanc

There were a couple of memorial services posted in the forums under, "Please help us honor our brothers". I am planning to attend both of them. The location is,

The Parish of St.Cyril and Methodius Church
      125 Half Hollow Road
      Deer Park, NY 11729
      At 11:15AM on Nov. 16th and 17th.

I hope to see you there, Just look for the Willow Springs Fire/Rescue patch. Be safe out there.

How to get from Manhatten to SI. Take the subway and go down to the SI Ferry (1/2 hour ride). Once on SI, you can take the subway or a bus. Plan on at least an hour commute. Ask for help if you need it, everybody we talked to was very helpful. We weren't charged to ride while we were in uniform.

I would advise you to study mapquest or Streetmaps and get a good idea of the layout before you go. FDNY and New Yorkers in general were very good to us.

Also check out Scruffy Duffy's on 8th Ave.

been to a number of services in the NY area. Just go to the subway and ask. Everyone is very helpful. Go in your dress blues. also if you want to try to get to ground 0 start walking toward the river and once in the river area, ask at each entrance. You will find a way. There is a viewing stand by the river. Also see if you can get to station 10,the brothers my let you go to the roof. be aware this is their home.be safe

I am arriving the 17th, I'm staying near Laguardia. I hope to attend the newly announced memorial on the 18th, as well as, possibly others. Any advice would be helpful. Hope to see my brother firefighters in NYC.

For info on memorials look in the New York Daily News. They have the upcoming ones listed everyday.
