FF Layoffs??

I can't believe what City of Lorain is doing to their town. Laying off 8 FF's and 5 Cops. Our nation is very worried these days of "What will happen next?" I personnaly feel this will be very detrimental to the City of Lorain. They are already short on manpower, so cut more jobs to drive the cost of overtime up. This doesn't make sense. Once again, POLITICS are interfering in us performing our job. Any other thoughts?

I completely agree with you. With all of the events since Sept. 11th Emergency Responders (FFs, EMTs, P-meds, and Police) are considered the first line of defense. It's sad to see brothers forced out of work at this time of raised alert. I feel sorry for the town of Lorain. I hope they can pull through this hardship.

FireDawg- After browsing the article about the layoffs I got the impression that they had already imposed an overtime freeze, so they aren't driving up operating costs...

They are just driving down their service levels and increasing the dangers their servants must indure to get the job done...

After all, you know as well as I do, that they could lay of 89 of their 90 FFs, and the last man standing would still do what he had to do to get the job done. What a sad state of affairs when your administion forces you to take additional and unnecessary risks doing a job where people already and routinely give their lives in service.
