Well, ok, the memorial was postponed. Postponed does not mean cancelled. I support the IAFF on its stance.

Given that, I should modify my earlier statement slightly:
I look forward to meeting as many of my Brothers and Sisters as time and circumstance allows at the Memorial on 18 Nov.
    My statement should now read:

I look forward to meeting as many of my Brothers and Sisters as time and circumstance allows at the Memorial, WHENEVER it will be held.

    Stay safe.

So much for the date not being set until all families have faced the mortality of their loved ones, huh Loo?

This is a tough call, speaking as someone who buried my Dad on Thanksgiving day.... there is something to be said for closure before the holidays pass.

Two of those who perished were FDNY paramedics.

Just curious, all information I've seen state 343 as the number of firemen from 9/11. You have listed 341. Is there a reason?

    Stay Safe

I will agree with my Brother from 40/35. When I first heard Nov 18, I thought it was way too soon. Many families have not turned the corner yet and don't need it forced on them.

On the other hand, weather, holidays and of course a January 1st change in city hall helped me understand the thinking behind it.

Like it or not, politics goes on. Stay tuned, I know you will all be there, whenever, where ever.

Remember, the IAFF, the WebTeam, Firehouse.com, etc, will not make the choice. The city will make the choice with input from the unions. Dates, times and arrangments were posted WAY too soon and I tried to say, "it is yet to be formally announced".

It is my hope that a Memorial will take place as soon as 100% of the families are ready to attend one. If it is Nov 18th, 2001 or 2002, I don't care. Please remember as always, when we lose a firefighter:

    The Family MUST Come First

As of right now, November 18 is STILL the date. Don't cancel anything.

    THIS JUST IN

The memorial service maybe called off ????
    Check with the IAFF.......

FACTThe City called off a meeting with the FDNY member escorts which was suppose to happen Nov 7th @ 5:00pm.....

As a Delegate to the UFA I have concerns about why now Nov 18th. In my house we lost 11 members. We have ONLY FOUND 1….. Why do this now? We think it is to soon for our families.
So why have this now??? Is it because of the Mayor?
WHAT ABOUT THIS.. The city's plan to scale back would turn the site into a full-time construction "scoop and dump" operation. In such an operation, all debris including human remains would be shipped to the Fresh Kills Landfill, the world's largest garbage dump.

He will be out soon. Then maybe we should NOT do it now and wait. He is still locking up firemen?

    WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Not trying to stroke anyone. Like most posts on here, just presenting the facts as early as possible so that it doesnt become a rumor of the memorial service being cancelled to a thread that spreads over email and the like saying it IS cancelled ... which had already started happening over e-mail after the Post story hit.

Frankly, had you not used the 'R' word as such we probably would not have replied at all unless someone posted incorrect information. But firefighters posting publicily suggesting anything along the lines of what you had posted would not help the situation.

We are all well aware of the significance of the Memorial Service and the tragedy of 9-11. We are all firefighters.

Expressing yourself is fine, suggesting a violent event is not. Just imagine if any mainstream media picked up on that post and reported it as the discussion grew.

    Thanks

    Brothers!

Let's take a step back here, and realize what we are dealing with: MUTTS. Pure and simple.

    What is a MUTT?

Here is the definition I use, as found on the FOOLS INTERNATIONALweb site:

"F*** THE MUTTS- PROTECT THE BROTHERS"

A Mutt is someone or thing that will abuse and mistreat a Firefighter. This can be the City, the Mayor, the Chief in Charge, the habitual caller, or the homeless Person who starts a fire and leaves.

These are people that have never crawled down a hall or made the last room in an effort to do their job. If they can't get the job done today well maybe next week will do.

If we don't get the job done people might die and our brother and sister might also die. So we always lay it on the line and leave a little behind at every fire. I say that in a dark smokey hallway I can't tell the race, creed or sex of my fellow firefighter, I just know that they are with me. I don't care who or what you are as long as you are a firefighter and want to protect your brothers and sisters.

Leather forever. Stay low and let it blow!

    FTM-PTB

    Mike Dugan, Captain FDNY

    Added by fellow FOOLS:

    EGH- Everybody goes home
    RFB- Remember fallen brothers
See? The thoughts of those wanting to stir the pot at MSG -- they are MUTTS. So, lets take care of our Brothers, take care the surviving families, and not let the MUTTS get on our nerves too much.

So, in closing, I would like to quote my good friend and fellow FOOLS Brother Dave, of Ladder 66 in Harwich, MA:

May your vents be leeward, may your searches be negative, and may your overhauls be complete!
I look forward to meeting as many of my Brothers and Sisters as time and circumstance allows at the Memorial on 18 Nov. I just got the word today that I was selected to go as part of my FD's Honor Guard. It is a priviledge and an honor to represent CJCFPD & IAFF Local 3133 as we pay homage to our fallen Brothers.

I also asked you to read between the lines. If MSG had concerns due to the concert which was held weeks ago, they would not have taken on this Memorial to begin with.

    Hello Everyone

The Memorial Service has NOT been cancelled as of Monday afternoon and everyone please be patient as the folks in NY work through the political issues that are going on now. Both the IAFF and MSG are working closely with city officials.

Certainly, suggesting there be a 'riot' or the like is not constructive for anyone.

If there are any confirmed changes to the Memorial Service we will post them ASAP.

Its reasonableo to think there will be significant pressure from the IAFF as well as the dozens of hotels that are already sold out, not to mention the many calls that all groups related are receiving as a result of the report in the NY Post.

    Thanks
    WebTeam

It would not be suprising to me if they do cancel this, as big a deal as the media is making of last Friday's "wild melee". That's too bad. The Post's mention of FF's behavior at the concert is more typical media BS. A concert is a much different atmosphere and event than a memorial service!

I'll keep my fingers crossed that on November 18th I'll be in Manhattan with thousands of my brothers and sisters but I won't be suprised if it doesn't happen thanks to this country's media.
