Hey folks! Wanted to share something special with all my friends here at FH.com.
Last night I went to a program at my daughter's elementary school. It was their tribute to the heroes and victims of the 9-11 attacks. They sang patriotic songs in beautiful, if slightly off-key voices, and read essays on why they were proud to be Americans. Throughout the program there was a slide show running pics from WTC and around the world. They asked any local police officers and firefighters to take the stage (rousing round of applause) for us to show our appreciation for what they do. It was a very sweet and touching program. Then, the music teacher, who happens to be a friend of mine, introduced another friend of his-a local singer/songwriter. She had written a song, recorded it on CD, and is donating 100% of the proceeds to the Widows and Children's Fund for NY police officers and firefighters killed in the tragedy.
The words and music will rip your heart out, the bagpipes at the end are haunting. There wasn't a dry eye in the place when she sang it, with the slide show in the background and all the little voices singing along. Grown men with tears running silently down their faces...people who didn't know each other before that night wre holding hands and hugging. It was beautiful.
I wish each of you could have been there. Instead, I thought I'd share the song with you...
THERE ARE NO WORDS by Kitty Donohoe
There are no words there is no song
There is no balm that can heal these wounds
that will last a lifetime long
And when the stars have burned to dust
Hand in hand we still will stand because we must
In one single hour in one single day
We were changed forever something taken away
And there is no fire that can melt this heavy stone
That can bring back the voices and the spirits of our own
All the brothers all the lovers all the friends that are gone
All the chairs that will be empty in the lives that will go on
Can we ever forgive though we never will forget
Can we believe in the milk of human goodness yet
We were forged in freedom we were born in liberty
we came here to stop the twisted arrows cast by tyranny
And we won't bow down we are stong of heart
We are a chain together that won't be pulled apart
There are no words there is no song
There is no balm that can heal these wounds that will last a lifetime long
And when the stars have burned to dust
Hand in hand we still will stand because we must
