BRAVEST TV SHOW PART 2

Since my last thread about this was closed, I decided to start one up again. This time....if you want to criticize another dept. do it somewhere else, not here. I checked my local listings the past two weekends and didn't see The Bravest listed. The show's web site has a listing for Detroit, so I'll have to watch it this weekend. I'm looking forward to it.

Hopefully the show will fly, but, realistically, it's probably not a mass appeal concept. The people on this forum have a great interest in the subject, but the general population probably doesn't. I wish more of us were Nielson families.

Being that "The Bravest" is a first-run syndicated show, meaning not on a network, this will overall hurt it and most likely, mean that it is either off the air in a year, or on at 3am (not that that hasn't happened already). It can be picked up by the local affiliates to broadcast during any non-primetime spot they chose. If your local affiliate doesn't buy it, then you don't get it. I have yet to watch it, but checked out the website and it looks promising. I will definetly check it out!

I watched last night's episode about FDNY and it featured some of the guys who are missing and dead- I thought it was cool to feature them and yes, it was odd to think that some of those guys aren't around anymore.

On the show-- I have believed for a long time that, although what we do is pretty exciting and cool (and has a sort of glamour to it) the bulk of the viewing public is just not too interested in the "real" stuff because it can be done so much better in the studio. Take for instance "Backdraft." A film that did much for the reputation and publicity of firefighters, but how many times have you seen a real fire like that? And the interior shots on the show, all you can really see is smoke-- it's kind of like turning on your high-beams in the fog.

On top of that, the format is very choppy, and the station I watched it on loaded it up with commercials.

I would much rather see one fire featured, and have them cover most the angles so that we, and the viewing public would have an idea of how much work goes into each fire, how long it really takes, how much work goes on after the fire, and how, for the most part, you can't see much anyway. Which takes me back to my original point-- they can do it better in the studio.

I don't think "The Bravest" will last long.

I watched the show on FDNY the other night and all in all thought it was pretty cool...kindof like cops but with the Fire Dept.. Anyways the only setback I have about it is its on at 12am on a sunday and I have to be up at 7am on Monday morning sooo its not that fun but anyways.. I agree If they dont get that show to primetime on a major channel soon then its gonna Crash & Burn (sorry for the expression) but yea Its weird how they showed guys that are not here anymore I thought that part was pretty sad..

I was down in New Jersey this weekend for a wedding I was in. The groom is an Firefighter-EMT in NY. We were flipping through the TV stations in the bar and came across "The Bravest" show. There were a few Emergency Services workers in the wedding as well as guests. We all took time from celebrating the wedding to watch the show. It was a very somber time. Watching Rescue 1 working on a call brought tears to our eyes and lumps in our thoats. After the segment was over, we toasted our fallen brothers and sisters.
