Bunker gear harnesses

I've noticed that FDNY has a rappeling harness built into thier bunker pants. And an unknown Florida department with a chest type harness built into there bunker coat. Where do you find these at? I saw that Morningpride Turnouts have these as an option. But are there any places to find these as after market? Let me know what's out there. Thanks

The harness that is worn by the FDNY is manufactured by the Gemtor Co. and is not a permanent part of their bunker pants. Morning Pride does offer loops as an option that allows the harness to be attached to the pants so that it can be donned at the same time as the pants. The loops are either velcro or hook and loop, and go around the waist and leg straps of the harness...just about all of the major manufacturers of protective clothing offer the loops as an option, and they can be sewn onto exisiting pants. I wear a Gemtor harness and am quite happy with it; I would definately recommend adding the loops or specing new gear with the loops already in place as it makes donning and wearing the harness much easier.

As for the chest harness, I do know that Globe offers some type of built in chest harness, and I recall seeing a piece of literature from a new company that manufactures a bail-out harness that can be manufactured into or retrofitted into a bunker coat. I can't remember the name of the company, but if I find the brochure I'll pass along the info.

Correct....and any manufacturer can add the loops to existing pants.....but make sure you specify you will be using the Gemtor harness, otherwise you will end up with loops for a Gut Belt, and those of us who wear Gemtor's know....It's da nut loops that save!
