Firefighters Activated for Militatry Duty

I'm a fire/medic with the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue. I'm also a reservist and I've been told to expect activation soon.
There is a big difference between military and F.D. pay. Do any of you work for a department that makes up the difference between military pay and F.D. pay? I'm not referring to federal law covering military leave (15 days) or rehire rights. I'm talking about a municipality that willing makes up the difference in pay when their firefighters are activated for a national crisis. If you work for or know of a department that does this please contact me w/ name of agency and possible contact person, so I can take this info to my city fathers. Thanks, it may keep me from having to sell my house!

I don't know of any Dept's in my area that do. I did hear however that the Federal Government is giving mortgage assistance to reservist called to active duty! Hope this helps! Stay Safe and God Bless!

WOW! If you find one. let me know where they are! I've been deployed twice, and it was leave without pay for 279 days. Fortunately, I have enough rank that I didn't loose too much. Health insurance was covered, but I had to pay the premium monthly (ALL of it). TRICARE will kick in if you get activated, but it isn't all it's cracked up to be. As far as your original question, I have heard of no place that will do this.

I believe the city of Leominster, Mass (pronounced lemonster) has a city ordinance that calls for all reservists / national guard members to be paid the difference between their active duty pay and regular pay. This also covers their 2 weeks of training in the Summers. You can call the city hall - (978) 534 - 7500 (mayor's office) who can help you or direct your call. This is a smaller city, about 40,000 people but it could be worth looking into. The number for the veteran's agent, which may be of more help is (978) 534 - 7538. Take care gentlemen.
