  • Oath of Office

    Hi Everyone,

My volunteer FD is currently looking at implementing an oath of office for members that pass their probation. We have emergency duty members and regular duty members (members that help out but do not participate in emergency incidents).

If you have an oath of office in your department, would you post it here so that we can get some ideas? Also, please include any feedback you may have regarding your oaths. Do you have different oaths for emergency duty and regular duty? Do you have another oath for officers?

    Thanks for your help.

    Joe

I usually end up having to come up with something for our banquet, where the chairman of the commissioners swears the officers in. We don't do anything along that line for the members.

      OATH OF OFFICE:

I, (state your name), do solemnly swear
That I will uphold and support the constitution
And bylaws of the ******* Vol. Fire Dep’t,
The Constitutions of The State of ******
and of the United States of America,
And that I will fulfill the duties of my office
To the best of my ability,
      So help me God.
Feel free to modify to meet your needs.
Opinions my own. Standard disclaimers apply.

Everyone goes home. Safety begins with you.

That's pretty much the extent of ours too...

...obey the laws and regulations of the City, County, State and County...
        yadda yadda yadda

Everyone that is sworn is involved in emergency response. Support staff (i.e. secretaries) do not take an oath. The police in our city are the same way... sworn officers are the actual cops and the records clerks et al do not take an oath.

Check with the City or County Clerk on this, as they usually have the right material to conduct the swearing in.
Stay Safe and Well Out There....

In Kentucky, if you are a government sponsored agency, the Oath of Office is as follows:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm, as the case may be) that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of this Commonwealth, and be faithful and true to the Commonwealth of Kentucky so long as I continue a citizen thereof, and that I will faithfully execute, to the best of my ability, the office of insert office according to law; and I do further solemnly swear (or affirm) that since the adoption of the present Constitution, I, being a citizen of this State, have not fought a duel with deadly weapons within this State nor out of it, nor have I sent or accepted a challenge to fight a duel with deadly weapons, nor have I acted as second in carrying a challenge, nor aided or assisted any person thus offending, so help me God.

Nope, I'm not making this up.
