On September 11 while tens of thousands of New Yorkers fled the WTC area, there were a few hundred who were running to the area. The worst possible tragedy took place. However, I would like to place a distinction between the firefighters/policemen/EMT's etc and the tenants of the WTC. The approximately 5000 people that died in the WTC had their lives taken from them by a horrible terrorist. The 500 or so firemen/police/emt etc GAVE their lives to the people of New York. To those who gave your lives...you have my appreciation, respect, tears, silence and prayers for your families.
