OK bro's, here's the deal.
After years of needing glasses to see beyond the tip of my nose, I finally worked enough overtime, and put off buying more "toys," and got that Lasik thing done! Awesome! Do it if you can afford it!
The end result is that I no longer require my "spec's" for anything... Not for driving, not for seeing the clock from 10 feet away, not for fighting fire! Yippee!
I am offering up my old eyglass inserts for anyone who needs them. They are for the newer type Scott masks with the mask-mounted regulator. I believe they are the 4.5 and 5.0 model. In any case, if your department uses a Scott airpack with a mask-mounted regulator that was manufactured in the last 10 years or so, these'll fit.
You'll have to take them to an optical shop and get lenses with your prescription put in, but you won't have to pay the 30 or so bucks that Scott charges for the insert and frame.
I'll tell you honestly, these things fog up a bit in the winter if you live anyplace that's colder in the winter than Phoenix is. But if you keep them greased up with a good anti-fogging solution (sporting goods store) they'll get you by.
In any case, using them beats not being able to see past your nose in your mask and walking into things like Chief Officer's, apparatus and other firefighters carrying sharp forcible entry tools and such.
Don't be greedy, if your department issues them or you already have a set, please don't ask for mine as a "spare." These are for another brother who'd really get some use out of them but whose department won't provide them. Only fair.
