Quiet Heros Behind The NYFD

A "wife" kisses her firefighter before he leaves for every tour and says a silent prayer that god will keep him safe.
A "wife" spends many a night, all night when the kids are sick, and as always daddy is working a 6x9.
A "wife" watches everyone kiss and hug their loved one on New Years Eve and runs to the phone to call her firefighter for a mental hug and kiss and hopes next year they'll be together.
A "wife" explains to the children that Christmas can be any number of days, the 23rd, the 26th and maybe if your lucky actually the 25th. Because Christmas is when daddy comes home.
I am one of the lucky "wives" whose husband retired "Safe and Sound" but my prayers have not stopped they are just slightly re-focused, for you see our son is now a firefighter.
To all the Wives,Husbands,Mothers,Fathers and especially the children- "To Those of You Who Have Given the Supreme Sacrifice, May God Grant You the Strength to Carry On Through the Upcoming Days,Weeks and Years.

Very well put young lady.... God bless you....and all whom we lost! I am a firefighter..my son is a firefighter and my girlfriend is a firefighter. I am often anal about it...but I refuse to go to sleep when my girl is working until she calls me or pages me with a good night. Hope everyone knows exactly why that is now!!!
