[Fire Fettish]

What types of brush trucks do you run? My department has a 1987 Chevy with a 250 gal tank and 150gpm pump. It has one booster reel and another booster line that's about 10 ft. long for pump and roll on field fires?

2001 Ford F-350 Diesel 4 door crew cab with a 250 gal tank and 100 gpm skid mounted pump in the bed. For hose we have 250 ft of 1" forestry hose, and a 15 ft 2.5" pony section for refilling the tank. Looking to get a 10ft 1 3/4 section for pump and run.

We've got a 1990 Dodge ram 4x4 with a 250 gal tank, and a 150 gpm pump. Works great.

We have three units we call "Brush" trucks, but two would really be better defined as "grass rigs"

We have a 1983 Ford 3/4 ton 4x4 and a 1986 Chevy 5/4 ton 4x4 (military CUCV), both of which have 200 gallon tanks, 90 gpm pumps, and 300 feet of 3/4" booster hose on electric reels.

The REAL brush truck is a 1966 military 2 1/2 ton 6x6 with a Maradyne power steering kit, 600-gallon tank, Hale HP200 pump (18 hp, 250gpm), two booster reels, 300 feet of 1.5", foam inductor, and one of my personal nice touches, a 6-foot length of preconnected 1 1/2" booster hose, which works really nice on head fires with about 60 feet of reach while riding the truck.

We've got another 6x6 in the shop, and we're gonna rig it up almost exactly like the first one.


Earlier this evening, I talked to the Chief from Shamrock Fire Department (unquestionably deserving recipient of FEMA grant for PPE in the last round, contratulations), and they've rigged up the smallest "brush" unit in the area with a donated 4-wheeler carrying 24 gallons of water with a 12-volt electric pump.

Maybe they should call it a "shrub" unit.

They use it for mop-up in wooded areas. Not a bad idea, as anyone who has spent any time walking through the woods with a backpack sprayer could tell you.

We have two
#1 is a mid ninties Cheverlet 1 ton 4X4
with turbo disel. 250 gpm hydralic powered pump with 250 gal poly tank. Booster reel, 100' of forestry line and 150' of 1 1/2.
Made for pump and roll not a very user friendly truck.

#2 is 64 or 64 2 1/2t military truck. 700 gal tank. 250 gpm darley pump. Booster reel, 150' 1 1/2 on each side. Three bumper noozles. pto winch. Very usful and tuff truck.

brush fires? We have Engine 12 for that! hahaha. Actually, in 99,the last year for data, Youngstown ran 218 brush and grass fires. I would say that Engine 12 ran close to half of those, followed by Engines 9 and 2. A lot of its first-due is nothing but woods...Youngstown's boonies. Its a 78 Mack CF with a 1000gpm pump and a 500gal tank. it also catches a lot fo fire though, most likely the fourth busiest engine in Youngstown. Youngstown has no dedicated brush truck.

The Marlborough Fire Department's brush unit is called Car 7. It's a 1988 Humvee (former military) with a Fire One skid mount unit and Darley pump. The polytank holds 275 gallons, the pump is 250 gpm. Car 7 doesn't get much use anymore...most of our brush fire areas have been developed and now have $400 to $500K homes built there.

We have a 1963 Studabaker deuce and half surplus truck with a 1000 gallons of water, 125 GPM pump, Scotty Pack with Class A & AFFF.

1977 Chevrolet/Pierce. 454 Big block, 4X2 (I Know), equipped with 2 1/2 for supply, as well as 1 1/2, and forestry hose. We also carry two SCBA's as well as a floating pump, three sections of smaller hard suction, a 16' extension ladder, all of the hand tools, irons, chain saw, foam, etc. It actually looks like the Chevy version of Squad 51 from "Emergency". We're "supposed" to be getting four wheel drive for it, but that was two years ago........

We have a 1982 Duce and a half with a 3 inch trash pump not sure what the flow is. with two 1 1/2 lines, 1,200 gallons of water, class A foam, hand tools and indian tanks.
We used to have a 1970's 5 ton with the same pump but, with a 1,00 gallon tank. It is still in service with another forestry district.
