remember how it was when they were comming up thru the ranks and try to improve on that. to always listen to everyone, to learn from others. to be adjustable and not set in their ways. to remember that they may not always be right. be innovative.
thanks for letting me have a say, Larry

praise in public, scold in private.
utilize the knowledge and expertise of their personnel, listen to and accept their ideas...you can't know everything about everything!
admit when they make a mistake, and use it as a learning experience, not to play the blame game against someone.

Good Leaders.....
1. Aren't afraid to roll up their sleeves and get down to the task at hand....
2. Would never ask or order a subordinate to do anything they wouldn't do....
3. Train like the lowest grunt on the totem pole....
4. Are fair, understanding, and own only one face....
5. And Last, but not least, aren't stingy with their knowledge and are quick to impart it upon those who seek it.

Do not spend their day with the noses in a book.
Most especially, they do not spend their day with their noses in books about the same topic. Read widely.
Which brings me to this link I stumbled across while eating lunch:
One can see in operation two different systems of interest and assess their relative strengths and weakness based on how they work in practice, in actual cases. In a unitary, non-federal system, on the other hand, one could only test one interest scheme by replacing it with another. The advantage of watching two systems simultaneously at work, like the French and English armies hacking away at each other at Agincourt, would be lost.
