Is there any departments out there that give preference points on a Lt.'s exam for those individuals that have an associates, bachelor's or master's degree in an field of study? Any help would be appreciated. If sending email, reference the subject.

The Massachusetts Department of Human Resources, which administers the Civil Service promotional exams for the Fire Service and the Police Departments gives credit for degrees under the category of training and experience. Education, time working in an acting position and special licenses and certifications all have a bearing on the mark recieved for this section. It is based on a percentage of the exam score."The education of a firefighter and the continued education of a firefighter is what makes "real" firefighters. Continuous skill development is the core of progressive firefighting. We learn by doing and doing it again and again, both on the training ground and the fireground."
