A few shifts ago just at shift change, the tones go off during a thunderstorm reporting a 500 gallon L.P. tank on fire after a litening strike.
Upon arrival of our first engine, IT WAS ON FIRE and the pop-off valve was blowing.
We followed procedure and got the fire out with in 15 minutes but the pop-off valve was damaged and would not reseat.
Needless to say, butane gas was escaping. The gas company finally got all the gas offloaded into a new tank.
Just wanted to tell the tell of yet another call where we were thankful to make it back to the station.
Be careful!
