Bay Fireworks of Long Island, NY was preparing a 4th of July show this year off the coast of Atlantic City when their barge exploded...could this be what your father saw? I think there was an article about the explosion on Firehouse.com

Hello out there, I have a question you. My father watched a large column of smoke off the New Jersey coast possible two weeks ago and then he said there was a very large explosion. He stated that this was beyond the horizon but him and the people on the beach felt the percusion. He said that it was a very bright explosion. We were just wondering if anyone out there knows what it was. Thanks FF/Medic 0372
