I believe you have to be 21yro. in IL to be hired as a "paid" F.F. Also in IL. to drive a Firetruck you have to have a min. of a "exempt" CDL class B which also requires an age of 21. Your best bet would be an explorer type program or one of the few vol. dept. in that area. If you want to go career sometime I would look very seriously at a fire science program at Triton College, College of DuPage, Rock Valley College (Rockford) or S.I.U. Sorry for the bad news, but don't loose faith, its the best job in the world.
You may find something way down south, but don't hold your breath.
Ggg has a good idea be an explorer, or you can try some of the emergency management agencies. A word of advise with the fire science programs. Take all of your gen ed classes first and if you can DON'T take any classes that are eligable for state certificates prior to getting your firefighter 2. You will have a very difficult time getting your certificates after you get on somewhere.
Well first of all you need a class "B" Non CDL and some departments will let you get on and train you and even test you for your DL. Depends where you live in Illinois. [email protected]
