  • How Does Your Dept. Deal With Fatality Accidents

    Hey guys and gals...

Just got back from a multiply fatality accident and am wondering how your depts deal with these incidents.

We have a debriefing and offer services provided by a local crisis intervention team. How do you help your fellow FF cope with stresses on a daily basis?

We also have a debriefing with the Critical Incident Stress Management team. The team is made up of career firefighters, medics and ER personnel.

Other than that, we just talk things over among ourselves. It's about all you can do.

And talk your head off until its all out.
You will remember it always, but you dont have to keep the emotions forever.

There is a CISD team for this area that can be called in by any department that feels that there is a need for a debreifing after a particular incident. I participated in one of these after a LODD. Personally I haven't felt the need after anyother fatality situations that I've worked, but that's not to say that others might not feel differently, and a team my be called in especially after a multiple incident, or a peditric fatality or something to that effect. Basically we all try to be there for each other when a need arrises.
