Always...behave when the Chief is present.

Always...eat your food REALLY fast before the tones have a chance to inturupt!

    Always...apease the veteran firefighters.

Always...follow the veterans around like a shadow: you learn a lot that way.

Always...go to the bathroom every chance you get!

Always...compliment your patient's pets, children, and hairdos.

Always...act like you meant to slip on the ice and fall on your behind.

Always...shut up when an instructor is talking.

Always...offer to do the nastiest jobs because someone has to do it and everyone else is just as tired and worn out as you are.

Always...say your prayers as you are responding to every call.

Always...write your mom and dad, hug your friends, and let everyone you know that you love them.

Always...spoil the firehouse dogs and firehouse kids.

Always...keep the coffee pot full - this keeps the veterans happy!

Always...get to the sofa first or else you won't have a seat hahaha!

Always...check your gear for wear, tear, and damage because you don't want to find this stuff in the middle of a call.

    Always...know where your partner is.

    Always...be ready to go!

    Always...ask LOTS of questions.

Always...try swallow your emotions for the duration of the call so you can stay focused. You can cry when you get back to the station!

Always...tell someone you don't know what to do if you DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.

Always...be quick to laugh, full of smiles, and ready to hug.

    Always...watch your partner's back.

Always...grin while you scrub that nasty mud-coated fire engine at 3am after a long drawn-out call. It makes the whole task a lot easier!

Always...be prepaird for weird stuff to happen.

Always...hold a victim's hand or give them a hug if they need it.

Always...stay safe and thank God for being alive!!!!!

    ...remember where you came from.

    ...remember why you are here.

...remember that the probies of today are the chiefs of tomorrow; someone helped you become a good firefighter a long time ago and now it's your turn.

Always keep a dry pair of socks in your gear locker.

Always turn off the ignition and remove the keys from your vehicle before locking the door and getting on the truck.

Always remember your basics. Technology (ie Thermal Image Cameras) can fail...so bring your rope!

Always remember to bring a spare pair of contacts (as I learned in the burn tower last night!)

Always remember that when you're wearing the least amount of clothing on a hot day at a call, the mosquitos will be at their worst.

    Always remember these 3 quotes:
    #1. Good idea Lieutenant!!
#2. It was already broken when I got here.
#3. I was off that day and I don't know anything about it.

Always remember if its freezing out shorts and a T-shirt are not the best things to wear.
Always remember the Proabies of today may be the Firefighters of tomorow. So teach them as much as you can and hope they can do the job as well as you or better than you.

Always make sure the engine is all the way out the bay before you hit the DOWN button on the overhead door.

Always...keep your head on a swivel and your eyes in two directions at once.

Always...resolve home problems before you leave for a shift, or at least call a truce. You never konw what may happen in 24 hours.

Always...remember those that went before us in the service to their fellow man.
