I need imput!!!!

I am looking for imput from anyone that is using the KNOX fire department connection locking caps. My department has numerous locations where the FD connection (sprinkler or stand pipe) caps are removed by vandals, and on many occasions we have found foreign materials in the connection. My chief isn't sold on the KNOX cap just yet and would like to hear from anyone using them. Of particular interest is:

1. Do they freeze up in the winter?

2. After they are on for awhile do they get "crudded up" and become difficult to remove?

3. Have you had any problems or difficulties?

4. Would you recommend them to other departments?

Any information that I could get would be greatly appreciated.

Not yet?!? But our winters aren't Syracuse winters. We do a late fall maintenance run around town and inspect them all prior to each winter.

No worse than having to remove all the junk that's been stuffed in like broken glass, etc that can injure FF's

Convincing the Chief to push the conversion. Changed Chiefs and that was the end of that!

Convincing the Dinosaurs to approve the funding. Because you know, "We never needed them before!"

Yes, but that's just one man's opinion and you know what they say about opinions? I find that people are either side of the fence on this one. They either like 'em or hate 'em, no middle of the road.

I've encounterred these on several occaisions and in my opinion they work great. I have to agree with trainer on his observations. I do have one question, what is freezing?

First thing.... when the caps are stolen DO NOT REPLACE THEM WITH BRASS... us the cheep plastic type... bums get beer money or kids have something neat and brass for there bedrooms....
